Start with the formulation—not the highest number

Soybean oil or sunflower seed oil forms the oil phase used to carry suspended PS. Carrier choice affects compatibility, viscosity, processing and label review.

R(S)-20 is soybean-source phosphatidylserine in sunflower seed oil. The “R” in this liquid grade name indicates the carrier-oil option; it must not be interpreted as sunflower-source PS.

South American procurement: when 50% is a practical starting point

Why buyers often evaluate 50% soybean PS

For a number of South American customer projects, 50% soybean-source powder has been a practical evaluation point. It balances active density, formulation flexibility and commercial considerations without implying that it is the default for every country, customer or application.

It can be appropriate when the formula has reasonable fill-weight tolerance and the team values a familiar soybean-source supply route.

When to evaluate 70% or liquid

A 70% powder can help when capsule space or dose weight is constrained. A 20% liquid grade may be more relevant to an oil-based softgel platform. Neither option is automatically superior: flow, excipient compatibility, oxidation control, suspension uniformity and process capability still require validation.

Why current liquid PS is mainly nominal 20%

Liquid PS should be described as an oil-phase suspension, not a true oil solution. Current liquid grades are mainly nominal 20% PS because increasing the PS concentration may increase viscosity and create additional demands in mixing, pumping, transfer, re-suspension, dose uniformity, filling and softgel manufacture.

A typical formulation direction for current liquid grades may include soybean-lecithin-derived PS at nominal 20%, other phospholipids and glycerides up to approximately 20%, soybean oil or sunflower seed oil up to approximately 73%, and rosemary extract up to approximately 0.2%. These are formulation-direction values, not a substitute for the current controlled specification or batch COA.

  4. Assess pumping, transfer and filling accuracy.

Can MCT oil be used as the carrier?

Soybean oil and sunflower seed oil are preferred current carrier directions for liquid PS. MCT oil may be evaluated for a specific formulation, but it should not be presented as universally suitable or universally unsuitable. The customer should validate mixing energy, suspension uniformity, storage sedimentation, re-suspension, pumpability, holding time and filling accuracy under production-relevant conditions.

Decision rule: carrier selection follows the finished-product process. A visually acceptable bench sample is not enough; confirm performance through the intended shelf life and manufacturing workflow.
